Q&A

Most frequent questions and answers

The Polar Bear series were inspired by my two daughters. They have faced many healthcare challenges, lengthy stays in the hospital and isolation due to illnesses and disability. I wanted to write a book that would appeal to children like them, as well as typical children experiencing typical childhood illness. The polar bear is based on one of our support dogs – a Great Pyrenees. He is a giant breed dog who loves to lie in the snow.

I wanted to share our family’s enthusiasm for life and their ability to overcome challenges by living positively and happily in the moment.

Personal experience will always greatly influence my writing and illustrations. The best stories come from who we are, the experiences we have lived and the challenges we have overcome. Stories help by letting others know that they are not alone in their struggles.
